TYPEFACES is a collection of letters and shapes inspired by the late rapper Mac Miller's 2014 mixtape FACES. I was introduced to Mac's music by one of my high school classmates, who remarked that I looked like him. Since then, Mac has remained my favorite artist, and I use the term artist on purpose. Mac was not just a rapper, not just a performer, but a producer, lyricist, and advocate. His work and his brother, Miller McCormick, who designed the FACES cover, inspired me directly in my career as an artist, thereby inspiring TYPEFACES, a project I began while studying at FIT.
I began this project with DIN Condensed for the base before drawing on top using the app Procreate. Using my iPad Pro, I explored color, shape, and texture to find letters in form. Eventually, I used this alphabet to design, print, and bind a lyric book and added the letters to Photoshop and Dimension to create the 3D renderings presented below.
